Work was toxic.
When I first started.
"F" word everywhere.
Life as a junior doctor wasn't as happening as I thought it would be. Saving lives? Yea, right. Save my own arse more like it.
Some bosses, *coughs*surgeons*coughs, had a few screws loose. They find joy in making lives miserable. Every little stuff also F, F and F.
I thought doctors were kind and considerate. No woh. So hostile. I just don't get it.
Thing is, I tend to forget things easily. Even if someone "babi"d me, I can't be bothered. Besides, I can't get angry at the food anyway.
However, my colleagues took it hard. Many took it personally. Some seen crying. Depressed. Many quit.
On the other hand, some changed. Screws also got loose. They started bullying others. Backstabbing++. Sad, right?
I always ask my students why they opted to be a doc.
"I wanna save lives."
Truth is, they're the ones that need saving.
As much as I hated my work earlier, I enjoy it now. Otherwise, I won't have stories to tell. These toxic environments exist everywhere. It's not just medicine.
My work has gotten a lot better. Senior already. Hah, my time to return the "favour" to the young'uns.
Jokes aside, we can't change others. But we can always change ourselves. So, let's treat others well.
How's your work environment?
