I Hated Merdeka 2020

Merdeka 2020.

I wasn't excited.

Truth is, I hated it.

Hated the fact that it wasn't the Wawasan 2020 that I was taught in school. 2020 seemed so far away then. Now that I'm here, it's definitely not the one. You know I know lah what's happening.

That said, I'm very grateful to be brought up as a Malaysian.

A country which I can:

  1. Greet elders uncles & aunties.
  2. Walk like a snail, no one cares.
  3. Eat nasi lemak 3 times/day.
  4. Sweat my armpits out.
  5. Use macha, bro & boss.
  6. Speak 3 languages in one go.
  7. Stop traffic with my hand.
  8. Be late and blame the jam.
  9. Cebok without toilet paper.

I love my country to bits. Not that I'm patriotic.

It's because Malaysia is my home.

She gave me the childhood memories that made me who I am today.

It's okay outsiders "whack" my country, I accept. However, if we tikam her tak henti-henti, we're stabbing ourselves too, no? Instead, we can always choose to save her wan. Make it better. Oozing with awesomeness.

So, the next time when we see a fellow Malaysian, remember to smile and say "Dah makan ke?". And not, "Nak apa?!" like one was caught in telanjang mode.

Adab perlu lah ada. That's who we are. Kesopanan dan kesusilaan kan. Bukan main hafal je.

Are you proud to be a Malaysian?

I sure am.
